It's true that financial types are a bit skittish and--let's be honest--can be fair weather friends.
London wasn't a financial centre until the US pushed so much investment offshore with Regulation Q and the Interest Equalisation Tax. Geneva, Singapore, and Shanghai would all love to host the financiers who can't handle a bit of tax uncertainty. My prediction for 2010 is that the City will flex some political muscle to ensure the political decision makers create a more favorable regulatory environment. London today is a centre of excellence for finance, with a sophisticated regulatory scheme and an economic ecosystem that supports the trading floors and hedge funds. for now unless you are independant there are no viable alternatives, tax rates in Switzerland are also close to 50%
