  • It's true that financial types are a bit skittish and--let's be honest--can be fair weather friends.

    London wasn't a financial centre until the US pushed so much investment offshore with Regulation Q and the Interest Equalisation Tax. Geneva, Singapore, and Shanghai would all love to host the financiers who can't handle a bit of tax uncertainty. My prediction for 2010 is that the City will flex some political muscle to ensure the political decision makers create a more favorable regulatory environment. London today is a centre of excellence for finance, with a sophisticated regulatory scheme and an economic ecosystem that supports the trading floors and hedge funds. It won't disappear overnight.

  • for now unless you are independant there are no viable alternatives, tax rates in Switzerland are also close to 50%
