PathMotion has arrived! Born December 10, 2009 to beaming parents. Delivery was uneventful. Well-wishers are encouraged to request an invitation to preview the site. In lieu of gifts, send feedback or money—baby needs a new pair of shoes!
Thank you to our marvelous interns for all their hard work, panache, and moxie. As Carrie leaves us to fight the power on the mean streets of Berkeley, and Mathilde to wheedle comedians to the mean streets of New Haven, we are grateful for our wonderful summer together.

Congratulations to Keriann, our contest winner from California. “Thank you, this is very exciting! Is it for real?” says the proud owner of a new iPod Touch.
Survey results coming soon to all participants.
Thank you, Paris Chamber of Commerce, for believing in us! We have moved into our new home in the center of Paris, just steps from Le Grand Rex, in the tech incubator Paris Innovation Bourse. It’s a former lace factory that has been turned into office space for startups.
There may be a dojo or dance studio on the floor above us, or perhaps a well-hidden branch of Weight Watchers. In any case, the location can’t be beat and it’s great to have the legal and admin support of the incubator available to us as we grow.
We regularly get to think about our career plans. While there are many opportunities out there, it’s mostly guesswork to find an occupation that makes us happy, or even just to know what’s the “right” move. PathMotion is here to help people find better answers: from “what should I do with my life?” to “getting the job—done!”
The right tools for the job
We focus on giving people better access to hard-to-find practical career insights. No more wading through job listings by the hundreds, searching only by keywords. Using the latest psychological research on happiness, PathMotion allows you to explore types of jobs in key sectors which correspond to your career strengths and aspirations. We then point you to jobs in industries that you may not have considered before. For example, if your strengths are in problem solving and people management, we will show you specific jobs in finance, business, and politics where those qualities are important. Our methodology has been developed together with professionals currently working in these jobs. These are experts who know the relevant differences between working in an investment bank and in a micro-finance consultancy.
Learn from the experience of others: “How did they get there?”
PathMotion also matches you to real people who are doing the jobs you’d like to be doing. We will show you their career paths to show you the steps they took to get from where you are today to where you’d like to be. We will also give you glimpse into your future: for example, we will show you the most common career moves after being a corporate lawyer.
Coming soon
Pathmotion will be launching autumn 2009. Sign up for our email updates to be invited to our beta test. We hope you’ll find our tools useful when choosing your first job or internship, thinking about your next career move or about a meaningful side project, or simply exploring what options are open to you.
Today’s New York Times has a column from a life coach with a freaky ability to get people to confess their innermost secrets. The dreamiest of the bunch wants to switch careers from executive to UPS driver. Why? Even without the benefit of the PathMotion Career Makeover, he has a good sense of what he needs in his life: “Order, consistency, time to think, exercise, fresh air: basically everything I pine for as I sit in my agency mayhem each day.”
With each new job search, as with each new relationship, many people have a tendency to overcompensate from the lessons of the past. Will this ad executive be truly happy delivering parcels? There is one way to find out, and another way to make an educated guess: using PathMotion’s “Strengths and Aspirations” methodology, in 45 minutes anyone can gain a better understanding of themselves.

Everyone’s got an opinion on what you should do with your life. Some people stumble along or even succeed on dumb luck, others blindly follow mom or dad’s advice, and a subset does the opposite of whatever mom or dad think best.
We like to think that the best person to make decisions about your future is you. Problem is, no one’s had a crystal ball – until now. At PathMotion, step-by-step we are building that crystal ball. Step one launched today: the PathMotion Career Makeover.
We built PathMotion to help you make better career choices and find the right job. Using the principles of positive psychology and proprietary semantic search technology, PathMotion has developed a career planning tool that guides you from “What should I do with my life?” to “Getting the job—done!”
We hope you find our test useful and insightful. If learning about yourself isn’t reward enough, we will also donate to a scholarship fund for each completed test, and enter you in a chance to win an iPod Touch. At PathMotion, we mix self-interest with self realization!
